DJI Phantom 4 Pro – First flight

I did it, I’ve gone and got myself a drone. Not just any drone either. It was all or nothing, so I went for the DJI Phantom 4 Pro. This beauty keeps the design of the DJI Phantom 4, but the Pro isn’t just in the name: More sensors and a brand-new camera make this drone arguably the most advanced portable one out there. While I was previously interested in the DJI Mavic Pro and actually had pre-ordered one, constant delays and the announcement of the Phantom 4 Pro made me question my decision....

January 2017 microstock earnings – Starting isn’t easy

A long time ago, I promised to publish my monthly earnings I made from microsock photography. It’s now almost March, so I’d better release my numbers for January before it’s too late. For me, microstock was always just something I wanted to try for the sake of it. I had no hopes at making serious money and my suspicions were confirmed when looking at this month’s numbers. It’s not much, but I still decided to share....

This week in review: Drones!

This weeks best photography articles The Take Everywhere Camera Bag by Thorin Klosowski on Lifehacker. I’ve always been a big fan of “what’s in my bag” type of articles. I’m also a frequent reader of Lifehacker, so when I saw this story, I knew I had to include it in my weekly review. You won’t be learning anything new in this article but it’s always nice to know how other photographers work....

This week in review: MWC is approaching

MWC has only just started and as such it looks as if the news is waiting to happen. I’ll be covering the most eye-catching announcements next week but this week hasn’t been left empty either! Personal news I’ve finally managed to upload not just one, but two pieces of original content. The first article is a quick rundown of my thoughts on HDR photography. I’ve only recently started using HDR and my thoughts on it are detailed in that post....

YI 4K Action Camera review – Tiny camera, big action

Note: This review contains affiliate links. Following up from the cheaper YI Action Camera it’s now time to have a look at its bigger (and younger) brother, the YI 4K Action Camera (hereafter YI 4K). I praised many aspects of the first generation YI Action Camera: It’s cheap, the video quality is comparable to a more expensive GoPro, and the app is great. Every negative could be justified by saying “yes, but look at the price!...

Dabbling in HDR

HDR Photography or High-dynamic-range imaging (HDRI) is technique I would often have laughed at in the past. In fact, I was a frequent visitor of the subreddit /r/shittyHDR for quite some time. One of the most controversial photographers in this space seems to be Trey Ratcliff. Although I like some of Trey Ratcliff’s photography and I very much admire the job he is doing and the places he is visiting, I’ve always felt his photos just look too unrealistic to my eye....

This week in review: Something for the weekend

The scarcity of news following the CES is still going on, but I still managed to find some excellent long-reads in this week’s ‘week in review’. Perhaps bookmark this one for the weekend? Going forward, I will also include a bit of personal news at the beginning of each article. Personal news I’ve been pretty busy selling loads of my tat on ebay and the likes. I’ve crowned this year the “year of less”....

This week in review: Post-CES hangover

The CES has finished and gone with it, it appears, have all photography related news. I’ve tried my best but could hardly find anything to put into this review. Personal news I’ve previously mentioned that I am a Street View Trusted photographer and as such, I’ve opened a dedicated project page with some samples of my work. I’m still not quite sure on how to take that project further, so hit me up if you know of anything!...

This week in review: All human problem solved

Yes, you read that correctly, all of humanity’s problems must be solved. For those not informed: This week the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) was held in Las Vegas and there have been some rather interesting products unveiled. One of those being the (drumroll) Hair Coach, a smart hairbrush. Obviously humanity hasn’t got any bigger problems going on and as such, everything must be fine. All jokes aside, CES is a place for vaporware....

YI Action Camera review

I bought myself a YI Action Camera (henceforth just YI) after my misguided purchase of the inhaler-shaped HTC RE Camera (luckily that thing broke pretty quickly and I got a full refund) and have been using it ever since. Even now that I’m also in possession of a YI 4K, I still find myself using it sporadically. A quick glance at the YI and it’s obvious who the makers of this camera (YI Technology) were going after: GoPro....
